Q: Why are all their backstories and families so tragic?
A: Honestly, I didn't actually even notice myself. But I do admit that I LOVE sad and horrible stories over happy endings, so it might be a subconcious result of that. However, I also love characters that don't mope over their horrible pasts and get over them (Characters with inner conflicts and mental anquish are great too, don't get me wrong) so it's very likely that my characters will not angst over their horrible fates. Also the world they inhabit is much more dangerous than ours, so it's also likely that deaths are more common.
Or something like that!
Q: What's with the theme of leaving home?
A: Actually I made up this question because I wanted to bring it up. Personally, when I got to move away from home, my life changed from trapped, anxious and miserable to liberating and amazing. It was the best thing ever. So I suppose whenever my characters want to change their lives, they move away from their childhood homes and guardians, because I KNOW it will be a positive experience for them.
Q: How many races exist in this world? Is crossbreeding common?
A: I haven't fully thought about it yet, so information on this might change in the future. But at the moment: the one's that communicate with humans are harpies, (even if secretly) satyrs and fauns. Lots of races are still hiding because they don't trust or like humans. There used to be nymphs but they vanished.
Races can't breed together, not even fauns/satyrs, because they're just distant relatives, not of the same breed. Harpies can breed with humans though, but more of that in the next question.
Q: What are harpies like?
A: They're all females and really nasty and dirty flea and germ-ridden big things. Their whole back is covered in the sort of hair Viktor has just in his head, and their beaks are way larger. The rest of them is covered in brown or grey feathery. Their stomach, chest and face is bare though and is really sort of..leathery skin. They eat mostly raw fish but like the occasional meat as well, if they can be bothered to fly to the mainland. They don't eat humans, that's a policy, because they don't want to be known about by them, otherwise people would avoid going near them and they couldn't populate easily anymore. They do talk as well, they sound croaky and like they have a lot of trouble doing it.

Q: What's the difference between fauns and satyrs?
A: A world of, for starters. (That's a faun on the left and a satyr to the right.) The may both have the top of a man and the bottom of a hooved creature, but have completely different cultures and habitats. Fauns prefer recluse forests and satyrs go for humanhabitat, and both races have a bit of a rivalry going on as well. They're not in aggressive terms, luckily.
